Cement demand may double on Ukrainian cement market in five years
2011-08-04
The cement demand in Ukraine will double in 2011-2015, reaching 17 million tonnes, according to the Ukrainian Personal Analytical Unit construction market analysis company.
The increase will be caused by the growth of the Ukrainian economy and the development of the construction industry.
Today, 88% of the market is controlled by foreign industrial groups such as
Eurocement,
HeidelbergCement,
Lafarge,
CRH and
Buzzi Unicem – Dyckerhoff. The companies seek to improve their positions on the market and actively invest in production expansion and modernising their existing capacities. The annual volume of investments in the cement materials sector is €150-200m.
The source also noted that a new segment of small plants with a yearly production capacity of up to 300,000 tonnes of slag cement per year might emerge on the market, which will help to reduce production costs in the distant regions and improve the environmental situation.
