Tunnels under Dnieper in Kiev to be built after Euro-2012
2011-08-18
Kiev authorities may start construction of road tunnels under the Dnieper River after the Euro-2012 football championships, hosted by Ukraine and Poland, according to
Kievavtodor Ukrainian state civil engineering company representatives.
Planning works and other preparations for the investment project was provided for by €200,000 of funds from European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The project will be implemented within a public-private partnership investment program, implemented by the Ukrainian government.
The project provides for a return on investment by tolls to be paid by drivers. If the amount is insufficient to cover investor's expenses, the authorities will pay out respective compensation.
As
Russian Construction Review reported on a previous occasion, the Kiev authorities plan to construct 30 road junctions in the city within the development strategy until 2025, which also includes bridge and tunnel construction. At the same time, the authorities acknowledge that the number is not enough to improve the traffic situation in the city satisfactorily.
