The number of property agencies in Ukraine has fallen significantly thus far this year. While in 2008 there were 5,000 agencies, in March 2009 only 500 existed, announced LigaBiznesInform with reference to the President of the Union of Real Estate Agencies Alexander Rubanov.
There are no official data and calculations were conducted basically according to media accounts, however, it does appear that a dramatic drop has taken place. In Kiev there are currently 60-70 agencies in operation, while a year before there were as many as 1,200-1,300 agencies. According to Aleksander Rybanov, some companies have not officially folded and still operate as flat-offices. Moreover many specialists from those agencies that have closed continue to operate on the grey market.
