2009-08-24
Between January and June 2009 the total volume of new residential housing added to the existing stock in Ukraine came to 2.27 million m². This is the equivalent of a 43.9% reduction in comparison with the corresponding period a year ago when an area of 4.04 million m² was added, according to data from the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine (Ukrstat).
The most substantial reductions in the volume of commissioned housing were observed in Lugansk (79.0%), Nikolayev (72.2%) and Chernigov (70.8%) provinces. In Kiev, the capital, the volume of commissioned residential units declined by 56.9% year on year, to 256,800 m².
It is worthy of note that earlier Vasyl Kuybida, the regional development and construction minister, had estimated the reduction in the volume of residential units to be about 6.62% for 2009 as a whole.
