XXI Century planning to build Sofitel hotel

The Ukrainian developer XXI Century intends to build a five-star hotel called the Sofitel in Kiev. At present the company is in talks with potential investors interested in the project. The construction of the hotel is due to begin in the first quarter of 2010.
In 2007 XXI Century entered into an agreement with the French hotel operator Accor pertaining to the management of the proposed Sofitel, which was to be built as part of Kiev’s preparations for the Euro-2012 tournament. The construction of the structure was originally due to start in 2007 and to be completed by the beginning of 2010 but was put on hold because of the recession. At that time it was estimated that the construction of the hotel would cost €66m.
Accor operates 4,000 hotels in 90 countries under various hotel brand names, including Sofitel, Novotel, Mercure, Ibis and others.
