Ukraine launches drive to attract investment

The Ukrainian embassy in Ireland has launched a foreign investment drive designed to attract Irish business to the former Soviet republic.
The Ukrainian government has set its sights on large publicly-listed companies, such as the Kerry Group, which it believes can take advantage of the country's internal market.
Ambassador Evhen Perelygin said that the Ukrainian economy was not in direct competition with Ireland and that it offered Irish businesses the opportunity to become foreign investors.

Mostobud Announces Grows in Construction Operations.

Construction operations of the biggest in Ukraine bridge-building Company Mostobud* increased 63.4% in October -December 2004 if compared to the same period in 2003. Annual construction operations increased 144% - 202.8M UAH if compared to 2003.
Mostobud has been building bridges in Ukraine for 60 years. Mostobud is a general contractor of Podol Bridge construction over river Dnepr in Kiev. 

* An editor of this page Maxim Gots P.Eng. had been working for Mostobud for 5 years. At the time name of the Company was Mostostroy - to match  Russian spelling. Current name of the company Mostobud is abbreviation of "Bridge Construction" in Ukrainian.

Signed a 1200t Floating Crane Contract.

Engineering Company "Korall" will design a self propelled floating crane for bridge-building company Mostobud. Technical documentation shall be ready in June 2005. 

As it was decided In November 2004 the carne will be build by Sevmorzavod Inc. (Sevastopol, Ukraine). The company has an extensive experience in this industry. Sevmorzavod has built 73 floating cranes from 50 to 1600t capacity.

The carne will be used by Mostobud on Podol Bridge construction.

New Shopping Center Construction Starts in 2006.

Quadrate - Ukraine Company is going to build new shopping and entertainment center in Kiev. The location is next to the Lesnaya subway station (50, Popudrenko St).

Quadrate - Ukraine rented 5.62 hectares for 15 years. Total area of the center will be 50,000sq.m, cost estimated as $30M. 
Center will include 10,000sq.m Supermarket, shops' gallery, and entertainment facilities. It's the forth project of Quadrate in this style.

City of Zaporozhye announced start of the third stage of Lenin Ave. reconstruction between Mir St. and "Ukraine" shopping mall.

Zaporozhye is an important Ukrainian industrial center with population of 800,000.

Cement Production Is Down 8.5% in December

Cement production is down 8.5% in December 2004 if compare to December 2003. In total cement production grew up 19.3%, or 1,719 thousand tons in 2004. There are 15 cement companies in Ukraine producing 20 million tons of cement annually.

Poshtova Plosha (Podol Historical District) Reconstruction

Kiev's City administration made a decision to build a tunnel providing traffic access to waterfront freeway Naberezhnoe Chosse. This project will reduce traffic though Podol historical district. It will require a reconstruction of Poshtova Plosha in 2005-2007.

Perry Construction Completes Works at Kiev-Boryspil International Airport

Kyiv-Boryspil International Airport's timeworn departures area got a big boost on December 25th when the modern, new Duty Free shop, designed and built by Perry Construction officially opened for business. 
The newly designed shop has already generated extremely positive response from foreigners and Ukrainians parting through Ukraine's highest volume boarder crossing. 

The high-ceilinged, 600-m2 shop will boost sales though a three-fold increase in square meters, wide isles, easy ingress-egress and modern design. The wide-open sales area was designed to eliminate traffic and give maximum visual communication throughout the store. To clear the space, the entire 700-m2 ceiling was hung on just four central decorative structural columns with adjustable high-tension cables stretched to the ceiling overhangs. The result is not only better communication within the store, but also an eye-catching dramatic for the exterior of the store and the airport departures area. The non-load bearing perimeter walls are a combination glass/decorative panels, their light construction creates the effect the store's ceiling it is floating. The glass periphery allows the store to be flooded with natural light during the day. At night, dramatic interior lighting invite travelers into the Duty Free shop.

The Cabinet of Minister Finds Money to Cover the Second Stage of Sewage Collector Construction Debts.

The Cabinet of Minister has found sources to cover 10 million UAH debts. Main city's sewage collector is an important project in light of the Environmental Program that Kiev is going to accomplish by 2007.

Construction of Podol-Voskresenka Bridge Over River Dnepr, Kiev.

It's planed to spend 2 billons UAH in 2005Kiev's Mayor Omelchenko says. In 2004 196 millions UAH (Ukrainian Hryvnia) were spent. The higher expenses will start in the second half of 2005 with start of steel structures erection.

"We have financing approved for the first half of 2005. We would like to see steady development of construction in accordance with schedule"- Mayor Omelchenko says.
Total cost of two level bridge (subway will be on the bottom level) estimated as $175M.

Kiev Speeds Up Subway Construction 

Kiev's City is looking forward to continue development of Ukraine Capital's infrastructure, in particular subway's mesh development is going on.

In 2005 it will be continued construction of line from Libedskaya station to the Exhibition Center, as well as line from Siretzkaya station to Vinagradar, and the third line from Harkovskaya to Harkovskaya Plaza. In total length of subway's lines will increase from 56.2 to 59.3 km.

Highway Odessa-Kiev Construction is Coming to the End

In accordance with information given by Mintrans (Ministry of Transportation of Ukraine) highway Odessa-Kiev ($0.5B) is coming to the finishing point. As by December 2004, 41 bridges were built ( 12 bridges over rivers). Earth moving works reached 2 millions cu.m. There were about 5,000 units of construction machinery involved in the project. One line with speed limit of 140 km/h will be open in October 2005.
