Architectural council of Kiev preferred the one way rumps option of the east bank end of the Podolsky - Voskresensky Bridge versa tunnel option. One of the reasons is a possibility of flooding during tunnel construction. Architects have an opinion that retaining wall at the tunnel entrance will cause more damage to the historical area appearance than ramps. Length of the ramps is 300m and cost of 20.5M UAH.

Changes in the New Railway Bridge Project. |
Earlier this month Ministry of Construction found mistakes in the project of New Railway Bridge over river Dnepr in Kiev. The mistakes are made in bridge's piers design. 7 piers are under reinforcing works now and other 10 piers will be built in accordance with the new project. Ukrinvestexpertise made a positive decision about feasibility of the further bridge construction. Commission of Ukrinvestexpertise recommended including $700M loan interest to the project expenses. The Commission was satisfied with the fact that the cost of the bridge's steel structures was set flat in 2004. Initial cost of the project as approved was 3.9B UAH. At the moment cost of construction is 7B UAH, and the Commission estimated the final cost up to 10-12B UAH. Mr. Suchkov director of the bridge construction on duty told that the major cause of the bridge construction delay is a group of commercial properties that are still on the bridge's way. There are about 20 lots. The agreement is not reached in some cases. Lots owners have been offered compensation or their facilities rebuilding on new lots. Mr. Suchkov also mentioned that previous bridge construction administration had three general contractors on this project Planeta-Most, Mostobud, and Turkish company Dogus. Ukrzaliznytsya sets the only one general contractor Planeta-Most. Others parties of the project will act as subcontractors.
