Construction of new shelter at Chernobyl may begin soon. |

If the joint venture Novarka, which includes eight French, German, British, and Ukrainian companies, agrees to additional terms and conditions on the construction of a new shelter for the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, construction could begin within weeks, said Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko. "If the company that is the potential winner in the tender - Novarka - accepts our terms, the first concrete block could be laid within several weeks. If their decision is to ignore Ukraine's terms, Ukraine will insist on a new, accelerated tender," Yushchenko told journalists at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on Wednesday.
